Terms
Community Space ticket fees and venue partners
Draft. These terms are still being finalized and are not yet in effect. Each organizer’s signed organizer agreement governs its relationship with Meek Earth Studio.
1. Who you are buying from
Community Space tickets are sold by the event’s organizer, named on every event page and receipt. The charge is made on the organizer’s own Stripe account. Meek Earth Studio PBC (“the Studio”) runs Community Space and receives only the Community Space ticket fee described below.
2. Prices and fees
- The price shown on each ticket is the total you pay. Nothing is added at checkout.
- The Studio charges a Community Space ticket fee on each paid ticket: 1.9% + $0.75 for nonprofit organizers and 2.0% + $0.75 for for-profit organizers, capped at $18.95 a ticket. Free tickets carry no fee.
- Booking an artist is a separate transaction with a separate fee: the artist booking fee, 4% of the artist’s price (at least $5), described in section 7. The two fees never meet on one charge: a ticket carries only the ticket fee, a booking only the booking fee.
- Stripe charges its card processing fee, 2.9% + 30¢ per charge on US cards.
- Each organizer chooses who covers these fees: the organizer, out of the ticket price, or the buyer, in which case each fee is added to the price and itemized under the ticket.
- Every fee and who pays it is listed on the fees page.
3. Cards
Community Space accepts US-issued debit and credit cards only. Other cards are refused before any charge is made.
4. Refunds and disputes
- Each organizer sets its own refund policy, shown on its event pages and receipts, and issues refunds from its Stripe balance.
- On a full refund, the Studio returns its Community Space ticket fee to the organizer. On a partial refund, the fee is kept.
- Stripe does not return its processing fee on refunds.
- If a buyer disputes a charge, Stripe’s dispute fee is charged to the organizer’s Stripe account. If the dispute is lost, the Studio returns its Community Space ticket fee to the organizer.
- If an organizer cancels an event, every buyer is refunded in full and emailed, the Studio returns its Community Space fee to the organizer, and the organizer bears Stripe’s processing cost. The organizer gives a reason from a fixed list; it is delivered to the artists in writing and recorded on the organizer’s public page as excused or unexcused. No reason counts as unexcused, and low ticket sales is never excused.
- An organizer that cancels three events in a row with no completed event between is reviewed by the Studio, and nothing of theirs is published until the review ends.
5. Insurance, performers and merch
- An event expecting more than 100 people (by the organizer’s estimate or its ticket capacity) needs proof of general liability insurance covering the event date on file with the Studio before it is listed.
- Any event serving alcohol needs general liability and liquor liability coverage on file, whatever its size.
- A smaller event with no insurance on file may be listed once the organizer signs the uninsured-event acknowledgment: the organizer bears all liability for the event and indemnifies the Studio and Community Space against any claim arising from it.
- Each listing states who holds the performance-rights (PRO) license: the organizer, the venue, or none needed.
- An organizer’s merch appears on an event page only together with the merch of every artist booked for it, and theirs comes first. Merch links go to each seller’s own store; the Studio takes no cut.
- Off-platform performers. For a performer who is not on Meek Earth, the organizer may still show its own merch after recording that it told the performer they may post their merch on the event page free of charge through a Meek Earth artist profile, and they declined. The organizer is responsible for the accuracy of that statement; a false one is handled under the false-statement process.
- The Studio’s obligations under these terms, including the merch, swap, cancellation and record provisions, run only to artists with a Meek Earth artist profile. The Studio has no obligation to a performer who is not on the platform.
6. Venue partners
An organization that hosts a Studio concert and provides the venue free of charge becomes a venue partner. It is the only way to be exempt from the Community Space ticket fee. The artist booking fee (section 7) is not waived: a venue partner booking an artist pays it like any other organizer.
The benefit
- No Community Space ticket fee on the partner’s own Community Space events.
- Buyers pay only the partner’s listed price, whatever fee setting the partner chose.
- The Studio repays the Stripe processing fees on the partner’s completed sales each month, by bank transfer or Stripe.
How long it lasts
- Each hosted concert earns 12 months of the benefit, starting on the concert date.
- Hosting another concert before the benefit ends extends it to 12 months after the newest concert. Sales outside the benefit period carry the organizer’s normal fees.
The repayment cap
- Stripe fee repayments are capped at the value of the venue provided, agreed in writing when the concert is booked. Each concert hosted within the benefit period adds its venue’s value to the cap.
- Once the cap is reached, the partner pays Stripe’s fees for the rest of the period. It still pays no Community Space ticket fee.
What is not repaid
- Stripe’s fee on orders that are fully refunded, lost in a dispute, or still under review.
- Stripe’s dispute fees, and any Stripe services the partner adds itself, such as Instant Payouts.
What “free of charge” means
The partner provides, at no cost to the Studio:
- The room for the full concert day, from load-in through strike.
- Custodial service and cleanup.
- Electrical power, house lighting and restrooms.
- An accessible entrance and seating area.
- A certificate of the venue’s liability insurance.
- No rental, custodial, security or insurance charges billed to the Studio.
- The day of the month repayments are sent, and how a partner can dispute a repayment amount. To be announced.
7. Booking artists through Community Space
- Organizers book Meek Earth artists from their dashboard, anywhere in the United States. The price is the artist’s own, never below $200 an hour per musician, and the organizer pays a 4% artist booking fee (at least $5) on top, shown on every quote; a replacement after an artist cancels carries no fee. This fee is separate from the ticket fee in section 2 and is not waived by venue-partner status, which covers ticket sales only. The artist accepts or declines; the booking runs under the one published Community Booking Agreement at meekearth.net/book/terms, with the platform named as a non-party venue.
- Half the price plus the fee is due when the artist accepts and the rest after the performance, charged on the artist’s own payment account. An organizer with no general liability insurance on file for the date, two or more cancelled bookings in the last 12 months, a profile under review, or an open settlement case pays the whole price at booking. The card saved at the first booking is used, with the organizer’s recorded authorization, for every charge on every artist it books.
- Coverage is chosen at booking: Standard (force majeure forgives the fee; an excused cancellation inside 14 days pays the artist a 25% held-date payment) or Insured (the organizer attests to cancellation coverage naming the artist’s fee; force majeure does not forgive; inside 14 days the amount owed is charged in two installments 30 days apart). Excused reasons are venue loss, a government order, death or emergency of the principal, and force majeure on Standard; low ticket sales is never excused.
- One penalty-free reschedule more than 14 days out: notice, then up to three dates within 90 days checked against the artist’s calendar; the artist has 72 hours to pick one at the original rate or decline them all, which counts as the organizer’s cancellation at the notice date.
- Guarantee Plus, on a booking linked to the organizer’s own listing: the organizer itemizes its expenses (venue, staffing and labor, marketing, production, other), the artist sees the breakdown before accepting, and the total locks at on-sale or confirmation, whichever is later; 85% of ticket gross above expenses plus 15% goes to the artists a day after the event, split evenly among every artist booked on that listing under Guarantee Plus (one expense total and one split point per listing), with the fee on each share paid by the organizer on top; cancelling the listing or the booking voids it.
- Anything the automatic charges did not settle is settled between the organizer and the artist in the platform’s recorded settlement chat. The platform never holds, collects or guarantees a payment, and never debits either side.
8. Posting and the showcase
- Organizers post highlights from their events: an MP4 of 90 seconds or less, a title, the date and who wrote the music; original music only. Clips are hosted on Meek Earth’s own servers and reviewed against the content standard before they are visible; an automated screening service (Sightengine) may score clips, merch images and text for the reviewer first, and a person makes every decision.
- A clip with a Meek Earth artist in it goes to review only once that artist signs the per-clip co-posting agreement at meekearth.net/post/terms; it then shows as co-authored on both profiles. Either co-author can take it down at any time.
- One approved post per account every 30 days may go to the Community Discovery Showcase for the organizer’s city. The feed’s order is printed on the page; nobody pays to appear higher.
9. Changes to these terms
- How and when these terms may change, and how organizers and buyers will be told. To be announced.
